I think people are giving Trump way too much credit when they say things like this.
Think about what we know about Trump’s daily life as president. He works four hours a day and spends the rest of his time golfing or watching cable news. During the few hours a week when he is working, he has no attention span. His daily ten-page intelligence brief had to be shortened to a list of bullet points, with lots of pictures, and even then, they have to mention his name several times per page just to keep him reading.
Does any of this sound like a man who bothers with budget details?
If the proposed budget seems like Republican business as usual, that’s probably because it was drafted by the career Republicans in Trump’s administration. Someone in the White House is dictating this, but I really don’t think it’s Trump.
My point, of course, is that we have to get out of the mindset that things will return to normal as soon as Trump is gone. Trump is a symptom, not the disease.
