I used to buy into the media’s narrative that Joe Biden was a goofball. An airhead. A real-life bumbling Mr. Magoo. Then I watched the 2012 election’s vice presidential debate, and my entire opinion of him changed. Biden trounced Paul Ryan there. Handily.

I would have voted for him in 2016. I think he would have been a better candidate than Hillary. He didn’t run, though, and for perfectly understandable reasons.

But for 2020? No. He’s too much of a centrist, and I’m hungry for a real progressive. Of course I’d still vote for him over Trump if he wins the nomination. That should go without saying. But he’s not my top choice to win the primary. He’s probably not even in my top 5.
