People, I’ve come to accept, are inherently selfish. They don’t stop to consider how their actions will affect others.

This story reminds me of my own experience with a Christian evangelist. This woman took up fewer than five minutes of my time, and for her the encounter must have seemed an innocent one, even well-intentioned. No doubt she patted herself on the back afterward and slept well that night.

But for me, it was an infuriating experience. It ruined my entire day. And even now, years later, that event still sticks in my mind.
